The vision of The Association has been to maintain and expand the existing programs that benefit our statewide constituency while at the same time partnering with corporate America to achieve this goal. The New York State Association of Black and Puerto Rican Legislators, Inc. (NYSABPRL) was founded by legislative caucus members as a non-political, charitable organization, incorporated under section 402 of the New York Not-for-Profit Incorporation Law on October 11, 1985. The purpose of the NYSABPRL is to promote the common good, social and general welfare of the community; foster and maintain an interest in racial tolerance in the world; to encourage the development of the community and promote economic growth.
The NYSABPRL was organized exclusively for charitable or educational purposes as specified by section 501c3 of the Internal Revenue code. The NYSABPRL, Inc. does not to advocate or support either directly or indirectly, the election or defeat of any candidate for public or political office. The NYSABPRL, Inc. does not donate or contribute to any candidate’s campaign, nor does it participate or engage in political fundraising events, nor otherwise solicit contributions for candidates.
The Association puts on a three-day weekend every February in which the proceeds benefit the Scholarship Fund for youth entering college. We bring together the most influential African-American, Hispanic, Caribbean, and Asian leaders from every corner of the EmpireState and beyond. This weekend includes the Friday night Chairman’s Reception which is invitation only. On Saturday, we host seminars, a Career and Business Expo and Craft Exhibition Fair, an exciting Youth Summit, Concert, and Concert After-Party. On Sunday, we present our Church Service, Awards Ceremony, and our most important event – our Gala Scholarship Dinner.
We have successfully partnered our philanthropic endeavors with socially conscious organizations which are seen as leaders in the public and not-for-profit sectors. Your support and sponsorship will assist in defraying the cost to underwrite the Conference’s production and greatly contribute to our Scholarship Fund. Your contributions are tax deductible.
On behalf of the Chair and the Board of Directors, your consideration is greatly appreciated. We look forward to your participation in the 44th Annual Legislative Conference.
